Words

Something I have learnt recently is, to examine my promises made to God. God takes our words very seriously and He isn't playing with words as we do. Or don't you play sometimes with words? Am I the only one who likes to speak so much and sometimes useless things? :p

A person who taught me a wise lesson in this field is...guess who?...yeah, it's Solomon the wise king! He once said:

Don’t trap yourself by making a rash promise to God and only later counting the cost.
and

When you make a promise to God, don’t delay in following through, for God takes no pleasure in fools. Keep all the promises you make to him. It is better to say nothing than to make a promise and not keep it. Don’t let your mouth make you sin. And don’t defend yourself by telling the Temple messenger that the promise you made was a mistake. That would make God angry, and he might wipe out everything you have achieved.

My question for this time (as I use to end some of my posts with a question) is:

Did you know, 'God hates ... a tongue that lies'?

  2. that's something that's hard to hear for me! I made a big promise, to be single for 5 years (in May 2010) and many many times I've said, "oh why did I do that?!" and wanted to give it up. But your post reminds me: a promise is a promise, *especially* to God!

  3. Wow Hannah, that's really a big promise, but I know if you keep your promise to God, He will surely reward you!
